About Jason

Rev. Dr. Jason Carter is the Lead Pastor of Trinity Wellsprings Church (www.trinitywellsprings.com). Striving to cultivate Christ-centered, Gospel-driven, and Relationally-authentic lives of discipleship, our community overflows with hope as people share their experience of Jesus wherever they live, work, and play.

Before coming to Florida, Dr. Carter was a missionary-professor working in Equatorial Guinea--the only country in Africa where Spanish is the official language. In Central Africa, he was involved in the training, equipping, and discipleship of future pastors and leaders at the largest evangelical seminary in the country.

At IBCP Seminary, Dr. Carter served in a Senior Level Leadership position on the Executive Leadership Team which was responsible for the seminary’s overall vision, administration, budgets, and programs as well as its spiritual and academic health.

He was instrumental in forging a partnership with Central American Theological Seminary (SETECA), one of the leading evangelical seminaries in the Hispanic world, to bring the first-ever Master's degree program for Christian pastors and leaders ever offered in the country.  In this strategic partnership, Dr. Carter served as the Coordinator of the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Ministry program which trained the seminary's African professors as well as top-tiered pastors and leaders for various denominations.

Jason still feels privileged to have invested his life in indigenous leaders who, by God’s grace, will still be serving the Lord in full-time ministry 20, 30, or even 40 years from now.

EDUCATION

Jason’s preparation for ministry began in Wichita, Kansas through the faithful nurture and care of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  He received his undergraduate degree at Baylor University (Waco, Texas) where he studied History, English, & Religion. Before heading to seminary, he spent time as a missionary in the Spanish-speaking areas of Mexico City and Equatorial Guinea.

Jason has been awarded two master's degrees, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) with a specialization in Systematic Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary.

In 2013, Dr. Carter completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in World Christianity from The University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, Scotland).

PASTORAL CALLING

Before heading overseas to serve as a missionary-professor, Jason served as an ordained pastor at Second Presbyterian Church of Bloomington, Illinois, a congregation with a membership of 1,950 during his years of service.  He served as an Associate Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church with duties of preaching, hospital visitation, celebrating weddings and funerals, overseeing the Global & Local Mission Committee, supervising the Youth Ministry department which included a Youth Director and youth summer interns, and leading international and national short-term mission trips.  In an ordained role, he also served briefly as an Associate Interim Pastor at Eastminster Presbyterian Church (Wichita, Kansas), a congregation with a membership of approximately 1,500 at the time.

During his seminary days at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, Jason served on staff as the Youth Director of Dane Street Church (Beverly, MA) where he was involved in preaching, in the discipleship of students, and in the coordination of youth programs, retreats, and mission events.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys playing basketball, running, reading, traveling, and spending time with his wife Lisa and their three young boys (Kenyon, Jackson, & Tristan).
